Mambo No.8
I chose to create a type revitalization of Gothic No.8, naming my version Mambo No.5, because I was drawn to the bold, utilitarian character of the original and saw potential to reimagine it for a more playful, contemporary context. My goal was to infuse the strict geometry of Gothic No.8 with the flair and optimism of 1960s modernist design—an era that balanced simplicity with personality. By softening some of its harsher qualities and introducing subtle quirks, Mambo No.5 becomes more expressive while retaining the strength of its industrial roots. I envision it being used for cosmetic packaging, where it can convey both confidence and charm, appealing to a modern audience with vintage sensibilities.
